1 st  Torpedoes All India Rapid FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2021 organised by Torpedoes Sports Club, Kundapura, under the auspices of Karnataka State Chess Association and All India Chess Federation from 11 th to 12 th Dec 2021 at Athithi Hall, Hotel Hariprasad, Kunadapura, Karnataka. The Chief guest for the inauguration function was Sri.Ranjan Nagarakatte, the other dignitaries on the dais were Sri Gowtham Shetty, Founder and Chairman, Torpedoes Sports Club, Kundapura, Sri Amit Kumar Shetty, President Udupi District Chess Association, Sri Ramesh Shetti, Ex Vice President, TECS and Mrs Nagaratna Nagarakatte. The tournament was inaugurated by International Master Viani D’Cunha by making the first move. A total of 267 exuberant participants from 8 states participated in the tournament. IM Shyaamnikhil P (2389) of Indian Coach factory was top seed, followed by IM Viani Antonio D’cunha (2363) of Karnataka, IM Ratnakaran K. (2346) of Indian Railways, Pretham Sharma of Karnataka, IM Muthaiah Al (2214) and FM Senthil Maran K(2171) , IM Harikrishna A Ra (2085) all from Tamil Nadu were the top contenders for the Total cash prize Rs 2,00,000/- The Tournament was organized in a very spacious, clean and very well lighted Hall. Organizer provided delicious Veg and Non-Veg lunch, Cool drink, Coffee and tea for all players and accompanying persons. COVID-19 protocols were followed during tournament. Organiser provided Face mask and sanitizer to all required participants. 1st Torpedoes All India Rapid FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2021 was won by IM Muthaiah Al (2177) from Tamilnadu by scoring 8.5 points out of possible 9 points. He drew with IM Ratnakaran (2346) from Railways in the final round. 2 nd  prize was won by IM Viani Antonio D’cunha (2363) from Karnataka by scoring 8 points. He drew with Prashanth J Naik (1750) from Karnataka in the last round. 3 rd  place won by IM Harikrishnan.A.Ra (2085) from Tamilnadu by scoring 7.5 points. Dr Rajgopal Sheno

Top seed International Master Girinath PDS (South Central Railways) won the 1st Udupi Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament being jointly oraganised by Udupi District Chess Association, TA Pai management Institute (TAPMI) and Lions Club Manipal at TA Pai Management Institute, Manipal. Chief guest Dr Vinod Bhat, Pro Vice Chancellor, Manipal University handed over Kallya Devaraya Shenoy Memorial Trophy to the winner along with Rs Thirty Thousand Cash Prize. The other guests were Sri K P Achanrya, Chairman, Vidyanikethan Group of Institution Kaup, Dr R C Natarajan, Director TAPMI, Sri Ln Nagesh Kamath, Vice President, Manipal Technologies, Dr Rajgopal Shenoy, President, Udupi District Chess Association, Sri Arvind Shastry, Secretary, United Karnataka Chess Association, International Arbiter, Vasanth BH. At the end of final round final IM Girinath PDS, IM Shivananda BS scored 8 point each, based on tie break score, Girinath was adjudged as winner and won Rs 3000 cash prize and trophy. IM Shivananda as runner up and won Rs 20000 and trophy.. Arvind Shastry and Dhanush Bharadwaj scored seven point five each and placed third and fouth place.
